b43 looking even better

Gahhh, those b43 are looking sooo sick. Stumbled upon this image here, by clicking on links from Prolly. I am a fan.

pretty bike

I didn't like the previous looks of the MKE, but Prolly got his current frame painted and I think it's looking hella cool.

metallico

there's something about these handlebars, that i like. though, i'll probably never ride any of these, because i got pussy wrists, who start complaining about the lack of tape/gloves very quickly. anyways, the white ones will be limited to 20 pieces at first, available from mid june, here. also like that mad yellow-black dildo bar. seen at the ever so active fixedgearblog.

hm.

what did I say about boobs + bikes doubling the pleasure, again? Hrm, dunno, somehow I forgot, after a friend forwarded me this:

UTB 0 by Vigore from Kyoto

A couple of days ago, my friend Seiichi hit me up with some good news. I remember, back in 2007 he told me about his plans of building his own urban 700c trick-bike, branded Vigore. Vigore is a small bike-shop in the far north of Kyoto, close to the dormitory, where I was staying at. Vigore once was a builder of NJS track-frames, but stopped building them I do not know when. I think they focused on MTBs since then, but I always admired Seiichi for his original golden Vigore frame. Great bike, sadly it got stolen and never returned.
Anways, around that time the BMW Gangsta was just popping up in the Japanese scene, and we were having weekly events, be it trick-nights or longer rides around Kyoto on our track-bikes. The track-bikes seemed to feeble and precious for those new barspinning things, though...

...well, many months have gone by, but the time is here. The UTB Zero, by Vigore.

Sexy weldings, me thinks. I asked Seiichi for some specs, and will get more info soon.

minus 2 days.

good luck!

chicks and bikes again and again

This must be a nerd thing, not? I mean, even I fall for a woman+bike theme.
Yet, does photography get better for the onlooker, just because there's an object of desire depicted, and does this effect maybe even double if you make it two objects of desire? I do not really know, and I wonder. Fact is the FIXFIXFIX has tits and bikes, and it seems as if a hella lot of bike-guys get their nerd on for these two facts.

first contact

This morning, on my way to the new atelier it happened. I made first contact with a car, actually a cars rear-end. Casualties: some skin from my left elbow, my left handlebar-grips got cuts, and the right tail-light of a VW Golf got smashed.
I was behind the car, about to take a right uphill. He accelerated, and I tried to keep up, in order to use the momentum up that coming hill. That street is very narrow though, and due to oncoming traffic or something else which was in front of his car, he came to an abrupt full-stop, me being just behind him. Luckily, my frame didn't get any blemishes, esp. the fork. Though, now I gotta get insurance stuff finished, so he can get a new tail-light. It must have looked pretty dumb, to see a bicyclist crash uphill into the rear of a car, but it somehow happened.
He was a nice guy, and we were actually joking about the weird fact of me and bike being in quite a good condition, in comparison to his tail-lights. Oh well, now I have to get this cleared with insurance, etc. or I am gonna end up paying for his new tail-light. :/

fixed city

Interesting to see these two things, firstly a movie-documentary in/from Germany about the fixed-gear culture, and secondly to be hearing mixed opinions in this trailer, about this sprawling trend.

"fixed city | german fixed gear culture captured in 2009
Riding fixed – a phenomenon. A close up in Germany, summer 2009. Switching between velodrome and trafficlights, messengers and fakengers, inspiration and revolution, trickriding and speed adiction, pragmatism and passion, purism and a very own poetry.
Screened August 2009.

berlin police still up on its toes

The count is up to 17 seized fixed-gear bikes, at least if you can believe the "Berlin Morningpost" article (in German). It is the usual mockery about a lack of safety, due to a lack of brakes (why they are claiming them to be brakeless and then showing a FORT track-frame on the first page, which obviously has a front-brake mounted is beyond me) - some fixed gear riders crashing into police-cars, when they were about to be stopped, because they couldn't stop quickly enough - coming to a full stop would take forever - track-bikes demanding an almost inhuman leg-strength and concentration in order to navigate through traffic - only if you're lacking average intelligence, you're thinking it is a good idea to ride such a bike on the street (that's from a cop's mouth) - the bikes generally not having fenders, lights, a bell and of course brakes (which is not true) - etc. etc. Interestingly enough, one cop-person is even quoted with saying something along the lines of:
police knows, that, by law, they aren't even allowed to keep the bikes in a lasting custody, but they certainly would like to keep them of the street forever. an administration court will have to decide if the riders get their bikes back.
Oh, thanks.

But what do you expect, if the undertitle of this image just reads: Above the clouds (...) Kanye West on his Cinelli Vigorelli Fixie.

thanks for the heads up berlinfixed.

b43 looking good

Not much time left for the ECMC in Berlin. Better watch out... the number of seized brakeless fixed-gear bikes in Berlin is up to a dozen, now. Jussi blogged it here, or else stream it right from here.

the infamous pedal-tee

I really love this t-shirt, and think it's a great idea. When I first saw it on londonfgss, I wished I would have had the idea for such a neat design. :)

You might also wanna take a look at the original photographs, which obviously were the base for this design. Those golden pedals w/ Kashimax-straps are so damn slick. Amazing, and worthy of a t-shirt.

taco rim statement

Good to get some feedback from h+son about the taco-incident from last year. Indeed, this one rim had everyone confused quite a bit, yet it remained one single rim.

Over the past few months I have received many questions regarding the one very well publicized rim fail in November of 2008. This is what has been posted (with the help of some photoshoping) on the internet as the “taco rim”. After receiving the rim from the customer we were able to run a material test and the results showed that everything was normal. In the wake of this incident and after selling H Plus Son rims for about 10 months now, we have only ever received this one complaint and request for the rim to be replaced under warranty (which of course we did). After all these months, it is safe to say that this was indeed an isolated incident. In this situation, it might be that one rim slipped out of our otherwise very strict quality control or it was damaged during shipping, it is hard to tell. The difficulty of making a rim at this depth while keeping the weight as low as it is requires a lot of effort and gives a very low margin for error. Whatever it was that went wrong with the infamous “taco rim”, we will continue to strive for the type of quality expected from the best brands and continue to improve on the demands of quality and perfection. During this incident, we have also learned about the challenges of operating our sort of business in the age of the internet. One misstep and we could have been gone. Bye-bye, game over, you lose. Yet, we have continued and the support of our customers for our passion and vision is definitely appreciated. But we also want to point out that a rim of this weight and shape has limits when it comes to heavy abuse. This is perhaps quite obvious. What is perhaps less so is our continued striving for unique and inspired products.

freewheel-disc to fixed fail

Heck, the conversion-kit on this freewheel disc disintegrated, and I wonder why? It wouldn't be the "whip-skidding while listening to music, drinking a whatever and popping a wheelie while drinking the whatever" because that is just the way such a converted discwheel was intended to be used, was it?
Brahhh, sorry I shouldn't blog with a bad mood, but that explanation is just hilarious. I am glad no-one got hurt, and I hope this teaches some people a small lesson (but I doubt it).

polished rims arrived at dodici

First I set my eyes on this photo, I thought: bummer, they aren't as shiny as I had hoped. Good thing is, this is sort of a pre-run to the mirror-polished finish they have been appetizing us with, a few months back. So, it seems they've altered their plans slighty, in order to offer a silver, a silver-polished and lastly a slighty more expensive high-polished version of their rims. Oh well, so these really do look good, but I am really, really curious for the next update, MIRROR!!

helmets

Haha, this might actually work even better, than just giving out tickets for not wearing helmets on their bikes. I found it almost to good to be true, but this is actually for real, as you can read here.

hrm macanoorderingframa

I was happy to hear about the Macaframa DVD release and instantly went over to their site, punching in my address details, just to find out the ordering system is currently not working correctly. Bummer. Ha, I am so waiting to see this movie, damn. Comments had it, they are also planning on releasing a blu-ray disc some time later. I cannot play blu-ray anywhere, so I'd already be happy with just being able to order the DVD!

bootleg sessions ver. 3

Hello there, sorry for the lack of updates. In short: YES, I did it. I am done with art-school, and have been busy with sorting out all kinds of things, that had to be done after, well, being done with art-school. I have a lot of plans, including the future of this blog. Stay tuned.

And for now:

Looking really good, imho. I think, I am going to get this one, as soon as I have a better chashflow going on.
